As of June 2025, CDL drivers and non CDL drivers in North Carolina are no longer required to submit their DOT physical exam to the North Carolina DMV. Many drivers often ask what to do after they’ve passed the DOT physical exam. Our Charlotte chiropractor is a certified and registered medical examiner (CRME) with FMCSA. Our office is required to register your medical DOT physical certificate with the FMCSA. However, with the FMCA’s implementation of National Registry II (NRII), the over the road truck driver, both cdl and non cdl drivers, are no longer responsible for sending a copy of the DOT medical certificate to the North Carolina DMV.
Since the rollout of NRII in June 2025, there have been some hiccups along the way that may affect North Carolina drivers. North Carolina is not currently connecting with NRII, but is also no longer accpeting dot medical certificates via email, mail, or in person. What does this mean for the cdl and non cdl truck drivers in North Carolina? Simply, carry your dot medical card with you at all times. If you received your dot medical card from a certified and registered medical examiner (CRME) by the FMCSA, that examiner has 24 hours to submit your dot medical card into the federal registry that is connected with FMCSA’s NRII. The medical examiner also provides a hard copy of the dot medical card for the driver to keep with them at all times until North Carolina is connected with NRII. If you still have questions regarding the implentation of FMCSA’s rule NRII, you can find more information on their website.
If you received your dot medical card at our office, rest assured that Dr. Lyons is a certified and registered medical examiner with the FMCSA. The staff at Beyond Wellness Chiropractic Center submits the dot physical medical card directly to the FMCSA the day you receive it. Our staff takes great pride in making sure your medical card is submitted correctly and on time to the FMCSA via the NRII so that you leave here with a peace of mind that your medical card is up-to-date.
